StrideFit™ for Schools

StrideDeck Inc. has created an approach for schools, we call, "StrideFit™ for Schools".

It is a great way for students to gain exercise while learning life skills in a fun environment with a novel,
interesting approach.  StrideDeck Inc. has the perfect way for your class and school to learn together.

It includes joint instruction with professional trainers, (the same ones who train professional hockey players!).

StrideFit™ for Schools is:
  • Ideal for children K to Grade 7.
  • Meets the needs and demands for all range of skating skills and fitness from the novice to the
    advanced skater.
  • Costs about $10.00 per child for 4 lessons during regularly scheduled PE classes and are instructed
    by professional hockey trainers.
  • Each child will have success "skating" on their own running shoes, or on specially designed skates.  By
the end of a StrideFit program each child will have improved in his/her ice skating level.
  • A variety of new and playful exercise activities stressing balance, co-ordination, and overall general
    fitness.
  • All equipment will be provided and the classes will be held in your school's gym.

Each child will have success and be challenged.

Skating is a fun and social sport which may be done in groups of friends or individually.  Skating requires
much in balance and strength.  Many children do not have either the financial abilities nor the time
commitment from the family to allow for success on the ice.  StrideFit answers both of these dilemmas by
providing an inexpensive and  convenient program for each child to learn at his or her own rate of progress,
all in a school setting.

As each class has a wide range of students’ abilities and fitness, StrideFit is designed to meet this wide range
of differences in balance, conditioning, speed, and power.  By grouping into abilities and from the inherent
designed of the StrideDeck skating platform, StrideFit matches the lessons to each child’s needs and skill
level, from the novice to the more advanced skater.  Each child will have success skating on the StrideDeck
skating platform from using everyday running shoes or specially designed hockey skates.

Once the child understands the fundamental skills and  technique of the skating stride, then the child can
advance in skill using the specially designed skates.  Under a playful and controlled setting, the child can
individually learn and gain balance, strength, co-ordination and technique for a successful skating
experience.

StrideFit will also provide to the advanced skater a more challenging and rewarding progression of skating
experiences.  From StrideFit’s progression of skills and activities, StrideFit is ideal for all ages and abilities as
StrideFit  is able to meet the needs and demands from all range of skills and athletic abilities while ensuring
success for all ages and skill groups.

Equipment

All skates will be supplied by the StrideFit trainers.  The StrideFit hockey skates are uniquely designed for
easy slip on/off by a student.  There will be no need for an adult intervention.  No tying of laces is needed as
the skates are secured by Velcro-type straps allowing for easy slipping on and off, all in a matter of seconds.
The hockey skates' blades are integrated with a specially designed soft-rubber skateguard which protects the
gym’s floor from any damage, and ensures they are safe for everyone.

All StrideDeck skating platforms will be provided.  Each class will have between 5 to 8 StrideDeck skating
platforms allowing for small groups of children per station.  The StrideDeck skating platforms are portable,
weighing less than 25 k
ilograms, and are easily stacked and stored.

Instructions

The classes will be supervised by the school’s teachers while a professional hockey trainer will instruct the
children on the fundamentals of skating, balance, power, speed, and conditioning.  Emphasis is on the
enjoyment of exercising under a playful yet learning environment.  StrideFit is set up to give each child the
individual care and attention allowing for each child to progress at his or her own pace.  At the end of each
class, each child will experience the wonder and enjoyment of skating  by having many different and exciting
activities and challenges.

Games

The StrideDeck can easily be incorporated into many games.  Soccer, dodge ball, skittles, and basketball can
incorporate the StrideDeck platform.  The player on each StrideDeck will have at least one other partner who
can move about to get the ball(s) and pass the ball(s) to the player on the StrideDeck.

The StrideDecks can be placed out of bounds or as a safety zone from the other team(s).  The player while
on the StrideDeck can catch the ball, pass the ball, or try to score.  The players must be doing the strides on
the platform.  In this way, the child will be trying to incorporate two major skills at once.

Another idea is to use the StrideDeck platform as a “jail”, similar in games such as Capture the Flag.  While
on the StrideDeck, the “caught” player must do so many strides before being free.

Incorporating the StrideDeck platform into typical gym games will broaden the appeal and challenges of the
gym games.
